ORIENTALISM IN CHILDHOOD CLASSICS

Certain childhood movies and televisions shows have seen great success over the years as they have entered the homes of million. It is important to use a close eye with certain pictures because they have definitely found their way through the cracks. From Aladdin to the Pocahontas, childhood classics convey Orientalist views, ideas, and belief systems through their illustrations, the voices and appearances of certain characters and the overall story that is told. It is important to identify the power dynamics within these movies and pay careful attention to what is being embedded into the minds of many children.
